*FIRE & ICE*
Fire & Ice "Gilded By The Sun" был выпущен на NER (New European Recordings (NER) - лейбл Дугласа Пирса (Douglas P.) - музыканта, поэта и лидера Death In June) в ноябре 1992 года.
ASAFOETIDA издал CD-сингл "Blood On The Snow".
Fire & Ice "Hollow Ways" был записан вместе с Саймоном Норрисом (Simon Norris) из Death In June, Майклом Кэшмором (Michael Cashmore), работавшим с Current 93, а также Джули Вуудс (Joolie Woods), помогавшей Яну на "Trees In Winter".
Созданный им лейбл Fremdheit переиздал компиляцию "The Pact: Flying in the Face", куда вошел эксклюзивный трек национал-декадентов Death In June.

FAEL-INIS
Fael-Inis, you Lord of the arte of fire;
For to cheat the Son of Man,
And to force across the selfish will.
How to catch the souls of the Tuatha
Danan,
When the awen comes and we both slip
between.
Fael-Inis, you courtier dressed with care;
Many come when ere they may,
Since they pass before the terrible gaze.
How to catch the souls of the Tuatha
Danan.
When the awen comes and we both slip
between.
Fael-Inis, you prince and beggar both;
The Gods may call it vain,
Whilst the wit of all is carved from clay.
How to catch the souls of the Tuatha
Danan.
When the awen comes and we both slip
between.
Fael-Inis, call up the fire of time;
Speak the ancient language now,
Take no allegiance if you will.
How to catch the souls of the Tuatha
Danan,
When the awen comes and we both slip
between.
Fael-Inis, friend to those who see;
Who dare to take the spoils,
With empty hand but blazing will
How to catch the souls of the Tuatha
Danan,
When the awen comes and we both slip
between.
THE CAUSE
Hear a word, a word in season, for the day
is drawing nigh,
When the cause shall call upon us, some to
live and some to die!
He that dies shall not die lonely, many a
one has gone before;
He that lives shall bear no burden heavier
then the life they bore.
All for the Cause
In the grave where tyrants thrust them, lies
their labour and their pain,
But undying from their sorrow springeth up
the hope again.
Mourn not therefore, nor lament it, that the
world outlives their life;
Voice and vision yet they give us, making
strong our hands for strife.
Ah, it may be! oft I think, in the days that
yet shall be.
When no slaves of gold abideth twixt the
breadth of sea to sea,
Oft, when men and maids are merry, ere the
sunlight leaves the earth,
And they bless the day beloved, all too
short for all their mirth.
Some shall pause awhile and ponder on the
bitter days of old.
Ere the toil of strife and battle overthrew the
curse of gold.
Then twixt lips of loved and lover solemn
thoughts of us shall rise:
We who once were fools and dreamers, then
shall be llie brave and wise.
There amidst the world new builded shall
our earthly deeds abide,
though our names be all forgotten, and the
tale of how we died...
Hear a word a word in season, for the day is
drawing nigh,
When the cause shall call upon us some to
live and some to die!
REAPER MAN
Don't look behind you
Don't act scared
Don't step on the cracks
You'll waken the fears
Footsteps behind you
Come out of the night
He asks you a question
He asks for a light
The Reaper man is coming ...
Coming to play
Where does he live?
Where does he go?
Has he a mother
Nobody knows
Is he the hero
In his own dream
Obeying commandments
In the knife's gleam
The reaper man is coming ...
Coming to prey
He could be like you
Or maybe like me
An everyday person
Or trying to be
What's locked up inside him
What screams to get out
An angry young child
Your death is his shout
The reaper man is coming
... Coming to stay
THE HIGH GALLOWS TREE
Come slack your horse cries George, come
slack it for a while
For I think I see my father coming over
yonder stile
Did you bring gold, did you bring silver to
set me free?
For to save my body from the cold gaol
walls
And my neck from the high gallows tree
I 've no gold and I 've no silver to set you
free
For I have come to see you hanging.
Hanging on llie liigli gallows tree
Oil the prickle holly bush. it pricks it pricks
Oil it pricks my heart full sore
And if ever I gel out of the prickle holly
bush
I'll never gel in there any more
WISDOM, STRENGO, ELLEN, BLISS
(Translated by Stephen Pollington)
Be not downcast, wise warrior
Nor bemoan at all your life.
Many troubles must you endure
And evils of a cruel woman.
Life is borrowed and soon gone;
Nature lakes no care of an individual -
But courage avails against all things.
Let him fight who knows how to.
Do not be silent, wise man
Nor forswear speech.
You shall suffer for a long time;
Do not sigh nor cover the harm.
Make known what is true, voice-bearer;
Tell and disclose the shame;
Denounce and argue, deny the devil -
Don't plead, announce, be firm.
Do not dream, wise man,
Do not loiter under house's roof.
Go out and fight for worldly joy:
Often a warrior grows happy from strife.
A great treasure is rare;
Make good use of all you can get.
Have praise and life for a long time:
Wisdom, strength, courage, happiness.
SENLAC
May we forget that mournful day when the
sun rose over the hill
Those tired, weary footsore men swore to
hold their ground
And their heaving hearts stood still
Senlac was their finest hour
Murmers rising, darkness falling -
Over Senlac
Lest we misuse their hallowed trust whilst
the sun rose over the hill
When all the pride and blood they shed
upon that hallowed step
As those beating hearts mock will
Senlac is their noblest hour
Murmers rising, darkness falling -
Over Senlac
Come, shall we use some painful arte, ere
the sun rose over the hill
Till all among the apple's branches forge
tlie silent warriors' hell
And such grieving hearts cry shrill
Senlac has their shining hour
Murmers rising, darkness falling -
Over Senlac
Full behind the Son of Godwin, till the sun
rolls under the hill
May all tlie laughing, mocking foemen fall
into malfoss
Their murderous hearts stand still
Senlac be their holy hour
Murmers rising, darkness falling -
Over Senlac
THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY
I sat within the valley green; I sat me with
my true love.
My sad heart strove the two between, the
old love and the new love:
The old for her, the new that made me think
on my home dearly,
While soft the wind blew down the glen
and shook the golden barley.
'Twas hard and woeful words to frame to
break the ties that bound us,
But harder still to bear the shame of foreign
chains around us.
And so I said, "The mountain glen I'll seek
at morning early,
And join the bold united men, while soft
winds shake the barley"
While sad I kissed away her tears, my fond
arms round her flinging,
The foeman's shot burst on our ears from
out the wildwood ringing.
A bullet pierced my true love's side in life's
young spring so early.
And on my breast in blood she died while
soft winds shook the barley.
But blood for blood without remorse I've
shed at Oulart Hollow,
And laid my true love's cold clay corpse
where I full soon may follow.
As round her grave I wander drear, noon,
night and morning early,
With breaking heart when'er I hear the
wind that shakes the barley.
FOKSTUA HALL
The warriors eat and drink their fill
At Fokstua Hall on the moor
King Eystein's Jarls in their blood-stained
cloaks
Toast the King and spill mead on the floor
At Fokstua Hall on the moor
His Wyrd foretold in the rolling dice
A greybeard toasts Lord Grimm
While the empty seal by the King's left
hand
Marks the fate which waits for him
At Fokstua Hall on the moor
Out on the moors rides the one-eyed god
His eight-legged steed on the snow
The Runes at his side and a spear in his
hand
With me craft that the meek fear to know
At Fokstua Hall on the moor
From the barrow mounds of forgotten kings
The cold stones that point to the moon
The might of the ancient gods lives on
Our freedom shall hinge on it soon
At Fokstua Hall on the moor
Shall we follow like sheep to the killing
field
Or moved by the secret one's call
Take Wyrd in our hands, reclaiming our
might
And go forth from Fokstua Hall
NINE DOORS
Nine Doors for the traveller to pass through;
Seven Words to call the ages past.
Centuries of shame for man to put aside,
Words to lose and words to stretch and cast.
For, where comes the Prince, comes the
Darkness Bright.
Nine Webs for tlie traveller to dream from;
Two small steps to call the ages past.
Troubled times that man will push beyond,
Words to lose and words to fetch and cast.
For, where comes the Prince, comes the
Darkness Bright.
Nine Angles for the traveller to burn on;
Four and Twenty to Call the ages past.
Muddied climes since man was set upon,
Words to lose and words to fetch and cast.
For, where comes the Prince, comes the
Darkness Bright.
FIRE & ICE
“BIRDKING”
(Fremdheit Fremd Cd 2000, 2000)
DRAGONS IN THE SUNSET
Dragons in the sunset
Upon the darkened sea
Sailing through the mists of time
Calling unto me
Ghost ship black and gleaming
Lindens shining bright
Ancient kinsmen call my name
Far off in the night
My heart it stood restless
And I knew not why
Memory's spark was there
A twinkling of the eye
I heard the thunder and saw the flash
The stormy sky did speak
A voice whispered to my soul:
You are not of the meek
Ways of the eastern stranger
Are not yours to bear
You have heard the raven speak
And seen the eagle's stare
Battle's pain and skald's words
Horn of flowing mead
Steps along the lonely path
Where waits the eight-legged steed
Then I came unto a place
Of trees and running streams
There I saw heaven's sign
A wheel that did gleam
Reality, then I knew
I had found my kin
Now I sail to that great hall
Upon the fleeting wind
Dragons sailing on the breeze
Black and gleaming beam
The hand upon the steering-board
Has set my spirit free
Lost no more to time and place
For I have seen the land
I have heard the valkyrie's song
And I've touched Odin's hand
BIRDKING
Seidman sees through the eyes of Birdking
Smiles and takes his seat on the chamber's floor
Pulls up the shroud with the whitened taper
Matches the open flame and the serpent's door
Birdking carry the Truar's senses
Birdking carry the Truar's sight
Into the night
Seidman walks in the wake of Birdking
Cries and draws his blade from the empty sheath
Marries the two such with soundless beating
Carries the tooth and claw with the fire beneath
Birdking carry the Truar's senses
Birdking carry the Truar's sight
Into the night
Seidman talks in the voice of Birdking
Sighs and stretches his hand to the centre's shape
Walks 'neath the star with the purple quarter
Seals up the careless dream for the future's sake
THE WEREWOLVES OF LONDON TOWN
Beware the days of the year, little man
When the moon hath a face like a silver crown
Cleave if thou may'st to the home of thy clan
And hide from the Werewolves of London Town
Beware the coverts and courts, little maid
Where walks the man with the coat of brown
Though thou art abandoned, be not waylaid
By the hungry Werewolves of London Town
Beware the alleys and lanes, my son
Those shining eyes and their power of sewn
If thou art sighted, be not undone
By the mighty Werewolves of London Town
Beware the starlit nights, my child
And pretty lady in the sleek white gown
Though thou art forsaken, be not beguiled
By the charming Werewolves of London Town
DRIGHTEN'S HALL
To stand for a time in the Drighten's Hall
With the thegns and jarls of my hearth
Still the air, warm the fire
In the land where the Gods had their birth
Sing proud skald of elder times
Of deeds by hero and foe
Earn your keep, o gifted skald
For tomorrow your words may slow
To learn for a time in the Drighten's Hall
While the thegns and jarls chant runes
Still the air, warm the fire
In the land where Gods call the tune
Sing proud skald of elder times
Of deeds by hero and foe
Earn your keep, o gifted skald
For tomorrow your words may slow
To feast for a time in the Drighten's Hall
With the thegns and jarls at their play
Still the air, warm the fire
In the land where the Gods hold sway
Sing proud skald of elder times
Of deeds by hero and foe
Earn your keep, o gifted skald
For tomorrow your words may slow
To love for a time in the Drighten's Hall
Where the thegns nad jarls make their boasts
Still the air, warm the fire
In the land where the Gods heed our toasts
Sing proud skald of elder times
Of deeds by hero and foe
Earn your keep, o gifted skald
For tomorrow your words may slow
To dream for a time in the Drighten's Hall
As the thegns and jarls sleep on
Still the air, cold the fire
In the land where the Gods rule on
GAZE OF THE PROUD
Stolen from the hearth at morning break
Pulled across the threshold half awake
Led into the darkness and underneath the Earth
Three forsaken evens for wisdom's sake
Pure of heart, sound of limb
Safe without, secure within
But where is the balance
If not on the outside
And who meets the gaze of the proud
If not Paladin?
Painted down the limbs when moon was dark
Branded 'tween the fingers in Meister's hark
Greeted into torchlight and shown the secret sign
Sleeping under heaven with hempen sark
Pure of heart, sound of limb
Safe without, secure within
But where is the balance
If not on the outside
And who meets the gaze of the proud
If not Paladin?
Cast aside the silver to guard the soul
Keep the spirit pure and the body whole
Walk towards the altar and all that this contains
Gird your loins for battle and take control
THE LADY OF THE VANIR
There came a Lady fae the West
Who left not one cold man here
She smelled of trees and ocean breeze
The Lady of the Vanir
She kissed the pollen on the rose
She kissed the golden corn ear
She kissed the seed within the womb
The Lady of the Vanir
She went forth from the towers of Light
She felt no sorrow nor fear
She went to seek the heart of the night
The Lady of the Vanir
She found the cavern dark and deep
All filled with gold and jewels dear
She found the small men at their work
The Lady of the Vanir
She put her arm about the East
And found a thought so light and clear
She breathed forth song and melody
The Lady of the Vanir
She put her tongue about the South
And in her breast a flame did sear
She shouted forth her battle-cry
The Lady of the Vanir
She put her leg about West
And felt her Mother's breast near
She gave her heart to all the world
The Lady of the Vanir
She put her womb about the North
And felt the Star of Night appear
She bore it forth into the Light
The Lady of the Vanir
As she went forth, her white neck shone
With the jewels of ice and fire
And in her path the flowers they grew
For the Lady of the Vanir
Some make things grow and others know
And some are fair and full of cheer
But there's not a sweeter, wilder love
Then the Lady of the Vanir
FLAGG
Within the wolf and part of the hoody crow
The shadow of the midnight owl or scorpion at high noon
Lord take this tin can from my lips
But warmth only comes from burning
The Dark Man's purpose will be served within the secret ways
His hands will deal the spades from within the dead deck
If you wear the stone be safe for the while
But in the dark five minutes won't exist
The Dark Man's face will never deign to let you see its grin
His eyes will glitter light from way beyond the flames
If you wear the stone be safe for the while
But in the dark five minutes won't exist
The Dark Man's feet will always walk the highways underground
His face will madly grin from across the high places
If you wear the stone be safe for the while
But in the dark five minutes won't exist
TAKE MY HAND
If ever I'll see the Sun again
If ever I'll celebrate light
I'll remember the days when darkness came
Out of sorrow and out of spite
Darkness, I said, come take my hand
Embrace me into your tide
For all my needs prepared me for thee
To welcome thee next to my side
Darkness, I said, come take my hand
For light is the world I have failed
The corpses around me are witness to this
The pain I have caused is assailed
I'll never see the Sun again
I never will celebrate light
For darkness embraced me and took my hand
To celebrate slaughter by right
Darkness, I said, come take my hand
And tell me the numbers I've slain
I took on the life on each one of them
Never to be seen again
Darkness, I said, come take my hand
The killing of friends is done
Darkness embrace me, you lover of pain
The torture I went for is gone
GREYHEAD
Blue-eyed pursuer
I fled you for years
Till I turned and you shattered
My chalice of tears
Through the core of my darkness
Poured my madness, my anger
Your epiphany seduced me
Scorning my danger
For I cannot escape you
You who forms me
Fearless and innocent
Criminal and free
Greyhead, Greyhand, little one, little one
My father, my lover, my brother, my son
Your boundless ambition
Celestial lust
Burned sorrow to ashes
Smashed doubt into dust
You, Sculptor of Bodies
Made the Covenant of Flesh
Fluid meat, ceaselessly
Rendered afresh
Angel of Eternity
Denier of Death
The terror of nations
Lucifer's breath
You haunted my nightmares
You stalk through my life
My predatory Angel
My shadow-dark wife
MY BROTHER
When the seeds of strife are clearly sown
The poor his croft the king his throne
But my Brother still stands close to me
When the lindens close together stand
The coward pulls away his hand
But my Brother still stands close to me
When politics confounds the meek
Fortunes of war divide the weak
But my Brother still stands close to me
When the rune-graved arrow calls the fyrd
And flaxen spearmen meet their wyrd
My Brother still stands close to me
When the paths of war are fairly trod
Lesser men have nought but God
But my Brother still stands close to me
When bloody combat lays me low
Pain and tears are all I know
My Brother still stands close to me
So when the battle has been won
Father turns again to son
And my Brother still stands close to me
WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?
Where have they gone
Those proudest of dreamers?
Their woods are all silenced
And the bright halls stand free
Children sturdy and flaxen
Gewissae bold and free
As the land they were Saxon
Tall grass is waving
Over their barrows
Their pastures unmown
And the meadows ghostly
Shadows are whispering
Songs from the twilight
Their swords all shattered
And the spears just trees
